Fakhar Zaman’s Absence Sparks Questions About PCB’s Dual Standards

Fakhar Zaman Unhappy with PCB’s Selection Standards

Left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman has allegedly voiced his displeasure with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection process, which he perceives as biassed and inconsistent, amid the most recent turmoil in Pakistani cricket. Fakhar Zaman is reportedly considering retiring from international cricket after being excluded from the key contracts and forthcoming tours; which includes 6 T20i and 6 ODI’s.

Exclusion from Tours and Central Contracts

Fakhar, who is now undergoing rehabilitation, was excluded from the central contracts list and the tours of Australia and Zimbabwe. The main justification for this decision, according to PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi, was Fakhar’s fitness, which fell below the board’s requirements. Fans, however, disagreed with this reasoning, claiming that there may be a double standard because other players with comparable fitness issues were given contracts.

Reports indicate that several players obtained central contracts in spite of failing the required 2 km run test, which further fuels the debate. Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media sites as a result of this discrepancy, which has stoked rumours of unequal treatment inside the PCB.

Fakhar’s Support for Babar Azam Draws PCB Ire

The fact that Fakhar Zaman publicly endorsed Babar Azam on social media may also have contributed to his expulsion. The PCB management apparently did not like this. Mohsin Naqvi addressed this matter at a recent press conference, saying he disapproves of players openly challenging management choices. Naqvi implied that Fakhar’s post may have affected his contract status when he said that although it’s normal for players to encourage one another, it’s crucial to preserve professional etiquette.

Gary Kirsten Resigns Amid PCB Rift

Players have not been the only ones affected. Pakistan’s head coach for white-ball cricket, Gary Kirsten, recently stepped down allegedly because he and PCB couldn’t agree on central contract decisions and the selection process. Jason Gillespie, a former Australian cricket player, has been named head coach by PCB after Kirsten resigned. Pakistan will play three ODIs and three T20Is during their upcoming Australia visit.

Future Uncertain for Fakhar Zaman

Pakistani cricket fans are becoming concerned about the prospect of Fakhar Zaman stepping down from international cricket as events develop. Given the PCB’s ongoing management disputes, Fakhar’s absence highlights more significant problems with Pakistan Cricket’s administration. It’s unsure if Fakhar will rejoin the team or choose to retire, but the incident has spurred a crucial discussion about openness, justice, and the expectations placed on Pakistan’s best players.
