Azhar Ali Appointed as PCB’s Head of Youth Development

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named Azhar Ali, a former member of the Men’s National Selection Committee, the Head of Youth Development on Thursday. This action demonstrates PCB’s dedication to influencing Pakistan cricket’s future by implementing strong grassroots plans and providing regulated development routes for youngsters.

Azhar Ali’s Vision for Youth Development

Azhar Ali talked about his excitement for this role and how he appreciates the value of grassroots cricket in developing future stars. “I am honoured and excited to take on this important role,” he stated. He underlined the necessity of a solid foundation to recognise and develop young cricketers, drawing on his vast experience in club and domestic cricket.
Developing all-encompassing youth cricket strategy, working with local cricket associations, and developing age-group programming are some of Azhar’s duties. The PCB hopes to use his knowledge to develop new players through the Pathways Program’s education and skill-building activities.

Strengthening Grassroots Cricket

Designing and putting into place mechanisms to support grassroots cricket infrastructure will be a major part of Azhar’s job. To guarantee that players move seamlessly from local cricket to international spots, this involves creating defined talent pipelines. He also has off-field development seminars, clinics, and workshops on his agenda.
Azhar pledged to improve these initiatives even further while acknowledging the progress already made in youth cricket. “Our goal is to identify promising talent and equip them with the tools to excel at the highest level,” he added.

From Player to Developer

In his new position, Azhar Ali has a plethora of expertise. He captained the national side in nine Test matches and 31 ODIs, and he has played 97 Test matches and 53 ODIs for Pakistan. Additionally, he played a significant role in Pakistan’s historic win in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. He is well-equipped to properly mentor upcoming generations of cricketers thanks to his extensive knowledge of the game and its difficulties at all levels.

A Step Forward for Pakistan Cricket

The PCB wants to lay a solid basis for cricket’s future in Pakistan, with Azhar Ali leading youth development. The board’s priority for youth initiatives and grassroots infrastructure is a big step in improving Pakistan cricket’s standing internationally.
